Why I Walk
Over two years ago my family found out that my dad was in kidney failure and he needed a transplant. Being blood type O, he was told his time on the waiting list was estimated to be 6 years. Most patients do not have the ability to wait that long without dialysis or further complications that potentially make them ineligible for a transplant. We were extremely lucky and blessed that I was a direct match. After months of testing, I was approved to donate my kidney directly to my dad.This year I will be walking with my Dad! He is doing well 1 year post transplant and ready to walk too!
I walk because too many families (like mine) are coping with this devastating chronic illness, and thousands more will face an unexpected kidney disease diagnosis in the year to come. Not every person in need of a kidney is so fortunate to have a direct donor. Please help support the life changing work of the National Kidney Foundation drive innovation in transplantation and get more loved ones off the kidney transplant waitlist.
