2025 Boston Kidney Walk Story

Hi Friends,

My name is Peggy Bradbury, and I am proud to share my story as I prepare to walk in the 2025 Boston Kidney Walk. This event holds a deeply personal significance for me. In 2009, my life was forever changed when I received a life-saving kidney transplant at Massachusetts General Hospital, donated by my younger brother, Stephen.

Stephen and I were part of a groundbreaking trial at MGH. In addition to donating his kidney, Stephen also donated his bone marrow, as part of an experimental transplant study aimed at achieving “tolerance.” This revolutionary approach meant that my body accepted Stephen’s kidney without the need for immune-suppressant medications. I am thrilled to share that, 16 years later, my transplant remains successful, and I continue to live medication-free—a testament to the incredible advancements in kidney transplant care and the unwavering dedication of the team at MGH.

Since my transplant in 2009, I have participated in the Boston Kidney Walk every single year. This annual event is my way of giving back, raising awareness, and helping fund the research that made my second chance at life possible. Each year, my team, Friends of MGH, strives to surpass our fundraising goal, and with your support, we’ve achieved amazing results. This year, I know we can make it better than ever!

Join me in supporting the National Kidney Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital. Together, we can continue to advance the science of kidney transplantation, support patients and families, and give hope to those still waiting for their own second chance.

Thank you for walking alongside me—whether in spirit, with a donation, or by joining my team. Every step brings us closer to a brighter future for kidney patients everywhere.

With gratitude,

Peggy
