Why I Walk
I am walking because this year, my grandson (apo) Sebastian, has asked us to walk and raise funds for the NKF. He has reminded all of us how important it is to be vocal advocates for a foundation that has meant so much to our family. I am proud to be his grandfather and walk beside him.
As many of you may know, kidney disease is something that has affected my family in many ways. In 2016, I lost my dear wife, Severina (Bing), to complications related to ADPKD. In the years since, I have watched my son fall ill from ADPKD as well. Thankfully, his wife was found to be a match and they were able to undergo successful donor and transplant surgeries in late 2017. We also now know that my grandson, Sebastian, holds the same genetic mutations for ADPKD.
Diabetes, kidney disease, and dialysis also greatly impact my extended family and circle of friends.
Raising awareness and funds is something that can benefit all of us as well as future generations!
I walk because too many families (like mine) are coping with this devastating chronic illness, and thousands more will face an unexpected kidney disease diagnosis in the year to come.
I walk to support the lifechanging work of the National Kidney Foundation:
- To ensure that families will have a place to turn when they need answers.
- To keep up the fight for policy changes to protect kidney patients and living donors.
- To drive innovation in transplantation and get more loved ones off the kidney transplant waitlist.
Are you with me?
Please consider supporting my efforts with a generous donation.
