Did you know:
-If you are Black, you are 3x as likely to develop kidney failure (and the older you are, the higher that number increases?)
-Black people are the largest minority group that are in need of kidneys
-Black people are at higher risk of dying on the Kidney Transplant List
-Black people are 70% less likely to receive a living donor kidney transplant compared to their white counterparts
And all of these facts should matter to you because they are driven by economic, structural, social determinants of health that have unfairly, racially, and disproportionately have impacted Black people. Black people have a much higher rate of diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, and heart disease... all of which increases the risk of kidney disease, failure, and needing a kidney transplant for survival.
This month, I challenge you to advocate, support, and fight for kidney disease. Fighting for Kidney Disease, is fighting for Black Lives.
Kidney disease is a silent killer in our community and I encourage you to support me, my team at the local Transplant Center, and those across America by supporting our local Kidney Walk.
Kidney disease is a silent killer in our community and I encourage you to support me, my team at the local Transplant Center, and those across America by supporting our local Kidney Walk.
On September 22, 2024, me and my team will be walking for our loved ones, colleagues, friends, and those who don't even know they have kidney disease. We also walk in support of those who unfortunately didn't win their fight.
If you're local to the 757, please join me, or if unable to, donate and or share this post! Information on location will be provided once you register for the walk!
