Why I Walk

I walk for my family, for those who suffer from this devastating chronic illness, and for the health of future generations.  

I walk to honor my sister, my father, my grandmother, all of whom passed at young ages due to kidney failure.

I walk to inspire help and hope to  thousands of people who live with or will be diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.  

As a successful kidney transplant recipient of 25 years, I walk in gratitude to honor my donor, and to remind myself and others of the gift of good health.  This year, in 2024, I celebrate twenty-five years of successful kidney transplantation!  I walk to offer HOPE to others, that they too can live a long, healthy life, despite the challenges of kidney disease.

The National Kidney Foundation is life-changing, supporting both patients and their families in their need for information, advocacy, public policy support, and advancement in treatment, transplantation, and medication.   In just my lifetime, the innovations achieved has allowed me to live beyond the oldest of my ancestors with this disease and freed me from living with the fear of being in perpetual kidney failure.
