Why I Walk

I walk because I can thanks to my selfless living kidney donor; Mario Negri.  Mario made the decision to donate his kidney to me after dating me for only 1 year! Our kidney transplant was at Mayo Clinic in Rochester in 2007.  The care we received was exceptional. In 2010, Mario asked me to marry him and I am beyond grateful to share both his kidney and my life with him. The procedure and being the recipient of a life saving gift truly humbled me.  I made an agreement (with myself) to take care of my health, give generously to others, and advocate for living kidney donation.
 
I walk to support the lifechanging work of the National Kidney Foundation:
     - To ensure that families will have a place to turn when they need answers.
     - To keep up the fight for policy changes to protect kidney patients and living donors.
     - To drive innovation in transplantation and get more loved ones off the kidney transplant waitlist.
