Hello! My name is Cecilia. I am participating in the Kidney Walk 2024 because I, myself, am a kidney patient. On October 24, 2022, I went to the ER because I was extremley ill and did not know what was wrong with me. The doctor then came hours later and diagnosed me with End Stage Renal Disease. My kidney failure was caused by polycystic kidneys. I was unaware of my illness because I was genuinely always very healthy until I wasn't. My kidney function was at a 5% so I had to be put on emergency dialysis. I was on dialysis for 1.5 years. Fortunately, one of my donors, my cousin, ended up being a perfect match to me. Februrary 21, 2024, was the day of the transplant surgery. Thanks to her I am living my life again. I walk to support the millions struggling with kidney disease. Patients and their families. I walk to bring awareness. I walk for all the warriors that are on dialysis, on the waitlist, and have recieved their transplant or are one step closer to transplant surgery.
