Kayla's 2024 Kidney Walk Fundraiser

WHY I WALK
My Uncle Harry has had kidney disease and been on dialysis for the last 10+ years. He’s lived with us growing up because of his mental disabilities, and while I no longer live with my parents, I've seen first-hand the challenges people with chronic kidney disease go through. From having surgeries to put access ports in place, managing dozens of medications, and maintaining a strict diet and fluid intake, having CKD causes a multitude of challenges for the people that suffer from it.
Seeing what my Uncle Harry has had to go through has inspired me to advocate for better healthcare resources and support for those living with kidney disease, and to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation. With that being said, Last year I participated in an event for National Kidney Foundation, and I’m doing one again this year. National Kidney Foundation provides support for patients dealing with kidney disease and helps further treatment and education through their many research projects. They also advocate against healthcare discrimination for patients with CKD and make it easier for patients that want a transplant to get one.
Every year, National Kidney Foundation hosts an event called the Kidney Walk, a charity event that helps raise money for kidney disease awareness, prevention, and treatment. With over 100 walks taking place across the country, the Kidney Walk brings together people of all ages to raise awareness and much-needed funds for research and education. The funds raised from the walk go towards things like patient services, public education programs, and research efforts. It's a super fun and rewarding way to make a difference in the lives of others, plus, you get to enjoy some fresh air and exercise while doing it!
I’m encouraging everyone to please consider contributing to this important cause, whether it be through donating to my fundraiser page, signing up for the Kidney Walk yourself, or just spreading the word to friends and family who may want to lend their support.
Together, we can end kidney disease.
