Hello everyone! I am so excited to be walking in my third NKF Kidney Walk! This is a very important event for my family and me. My kidney journey started on June 10, 2021. I had no idea I was even sick until I went for a yearly check-up and had blood work drawn. The results showed that I needed a blood transfusion right away. So I went to the hospital for a blood transfusion and there they found out that I was in Stage 5 Kidney failure. The next day I had an emergency catheter placed in my neck and I was rushed to dialysis. From there I went through many ups and downs, including hospital stays, switched dialysis types, procedures done, and many other things. I then received the call that they had found me a selfless donor. Thanks to my donor Shelly I was given a second chance at life! After my transplant, I got sick and was diagnosed with a Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma called Post Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disorder (PTLD). But with the help of my transplant and oncology teams, I am proud to say I am a one-year cancer survivor. This is only a snippet of my kidney journey. But with your help, I hope my team can reach our fundraising goal to help other kidney patients like myself! Why I Walk
I walk because too many families (like mine) are coping with this devastating chronic illness, and thousands more will face an unexpected kidney disease diagnosis in the year to come.I walk to support the lifechanging work of the National Kidney Foundation:
- To ensure that families will have a place to turn when they need answers.
- To keep up the fight for policy changes to protect kidney patients and living donors.
- To drive innovation in transplantation and get more loved ones off the kidney transplant waitlist.
Are you with me?
Please consider supporting my efforts with a generous donation.
