Hello everyone! I am so excited to be walking in my third NKF Kidney Walk! This is a very important event for my family and me. My kidney journey started on June 10, 2021. I had no idea I was even sick until I went for a yearly check-up and had blood work drawn. The results showed that I needed a blood transfusion right away. So I went to the hospital for a blood transfusion and there they found out that I was in Stage 5 Kidney failure. The next day I had an emergency catheter placed in my neck and I was rushed to dialysis. From there I went through many ups and downs, including hospital stays, switched dialysis types, procedures done, and many other things. I then received the call that they had found me a selfless donor. Thanks to my donor Shelly I was given a second chance at life! After my transplant, I got sick and was diagnosed with a Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma called Post Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disorder (PTLD). But with the help of my transplant and oncology teams, I am proud to say I am a one-year cancer survivor. This is only a snippet of my kidney journey.
