Why My Dog and I Are Walking

My rescue pup Adora and I will be walking 5k in honor of my mom, who has been living with the symptoms of progressive kidney disease for many years. With her permission, I am sharing a little bit of her story.

In the last few years, my mom has been working hard, taking tremendous steps to improve her health to qualify for a transplant. Unfortunately, before she was able to receive a kidney, she faced a sudden health crisis and was hospitalized when her kidneys failed. My mom is now adjusting to regular hemodialysis, and I am incredibly proud of her for her courage in adapting to this new phase in her life, even as she continues to help others in her community, serving on the veterans commission of Anne Arundel County, and still working remotely for Paralyzed Veterans of America.

To support her and others with similar stories, I walk to support the lifechanging work of the National Kidney Foundation:
     - To ensure that families will have a place to turn when they need answers.
     - To keep up the fight for policy changes to protect kidney patients and living donors.
     - To drive innovation in transplantation and get more loved ones off the kidney transplant waitlist.
