Why We Walk

This year, our team has joined others throughout the country to fight against kidney disease. On October 27, 2024 we’ll walk for our loved ones, colleagues or friends who cope with this devastating chronic illness each day – and for those who lost their fight too soon.

My dad was so much more than just a dad to me.  He was my biggest supporter, my biggest critic, my biggest fan, my idol, and most importantly, my best friend.  On July 29th, 2022, he sadly lost his 3.5-year battle with Renal Cell Carcinoma.  The past two years have been a whirlwind of emotions, with many ups and downs, tears, laughs, smiles, and reminiscing.

Since then, I have been wanting to honor my dad's name and legacy, but have struggled to come up with the best way to do that, until now.  My dad was not perfect, as none of us is, but the one thing he always did perfectly was be there to support or lend a helping hand to family, friends, or anyone in need.  My dad took great pride in being a good person and doing the right thing, and that led him to being the voice of reason and support to so many people.

After much thought, I know the best way I can honor my dad is to give back and help others who are in need, just like my dad always did.  This walk is a way for me to honor who my dad was and the impact he made.  So many individuals and their families are affected by all kinds of kidney diseases, and I know from first-hand experience just how difficult it can be to navigate.  My hope is that the money raised by my team and supporters can play a small part in helping better the future treatments of all patients affected by whatever terrible disease they are fighting.

Please consider donating to help support those in need.  Let's make Year 1 of this journey one to remember!  Your efforts and kindness are much appreciated.

With love,

Matt Fusaro
