This year, kidney cancer became a part of my journey. I was so very fortunate. Less than two months passed between the detection of the tumor and my surgery to ablate it, with only infrequent moments of significant pain. I was blessed to be diagnosed early, and to have fallen into the hands of an incredible care team. They moved quickly to begin my treatment, infusing kindness and humor to combat my fear along the way. My surgery was successful, with no malignancies registered on my first post-operative scans! My second round of testing will be this December, and I am confident and optimistic for continued good news.
I am walking this year for health, both to celebrate it and to fight for it. The scientific and financial contributions of those who came before us ensured that I am healthy today. Let’s work together to be a part of someone else’s healthy journey tomorrow.
