Why I Walk
I walk because countless families, including mine, are grappling with the devastating effects of chronic kidney disease (CKD), and thousands more will receive an unexpected diagnosis in the coming year.Raising awareness about CKD is crucial because it's often an invisible illness. Many, like my daughter, may appear perfectly healthy on the outside, making it challenging for others to understand their struggles and for hospitals and organizations to secure the necessary funding to support these patients.
By spreading awareness, we help others recognize the true impact of CKD, encourage more people to get tested, and rally support for those living with the disease.
I walk to champion the transformative work of the National Kidney Foundation:
- To ensure families have a reliable resource when they seek answers.
- To advocate for policy changes that protect kidney patients and living donors.
- To drive advancements in transplantation and help more loved ones leave the kidney transplant waitlist.
