Why I Walk
My name is Easton, a senior at Jackson High School, and this is my second year joining the Kidney Walk.
For the past 12 years, I have been a kidney patient battling chronic kidney disease. I was diagnosed with kidney disease when I was in kindergarten after I became ill with pneumonia. At that time, my family was informed that kidney disease was irreversible, and one day I would need a kidney transplant.
I have been blessed with an incredible medical team (doctors, nurses, dietitians, care coordinator...) who have managed my treatment throughout my illness. I have participated in multiple clinical trials and studies to help doctors learn how to treat patients with chronic kidney disease better.
I walk because too many families, including mine, are coping with this devastating chronic illness, and thousands more will face an unexpected kidney disease diagnosis in the year to come.
I walk to support the life-changing work of the National Kidney Foundation:
- To ensure families have a place to turn when they need answers.
- To fight for policy changes to protect kidney patients and living donors.
- To drive innovation in transplantation and get more loved ones off the kidney transplant waitlist.
I appreciate all your support for me throughout the years.
Thank you for considering joining my team to help increase awareness of kidney disease.-Easton
