I’m participating in the National Kidney Foundation’s NYC Walk on November 13th to improve the lives of the 26 million Americans who, like me, are living with kidney disease and the over 73 million who are at risk. After having surgery in 2014 to remove kidney stones, I was diagnosed with Rental Tubular Acidosis (RTA), a chronic kidney disease I will have for the rest of my life. (If you don't feel like reading all this, you can jump to the bottom to check out the link to my donation page:)

Although I've been fortunate enough to still obtain my prescription medication and have access to medical professionals who can monitor my condition during these last 2 years in particular, I am not the norm but, rather, the exception. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in particular, and the unpredictable and uncertain climate its engendered, millions of kidney patients across the Country have lost their homes as well as their access to life saving drugs due to nationwide medical shortages. Moreover, these Americans, as well as all of us with kidney disease, have been plagued by incessant fear since they face a higher risk for developing serious complications as a result of COVID-19.

So, if you're here on this page, let's get to work and help! Here's how: 'Lace up with me,' albeit virtually, anytime between November 7th and November 13th, 2022. The NKF will host its annual walk in downtown NYC this year in person but I still plan to walk virtually due to COVID.
As Team BR did last year, we will walk again in honor of Austin Davis Strauss, the son of a dear friend who lost his valiant battle to Polycystic Kidney Disease at just a few weeks old. For every person who donates to Team BR via the link below, a donation will also be made to Angels 4 Austin, a California based non-profit which donates both resources and small comforts to families who either have sick or premature infants or have experienced infant loss nationwide.

Your donation to Team BR will help the National Kidney Foundation:
  • Raise public awareness about kidney disease and risk reduction
  • Provide free local health screenings
  • Support kidney patients, organ donors, and their families
  • Educate doctors and other healthcare professionals by providing them with critical information
  • Help those kidney patients most negatively affected by the Pandemic have access to virtual care, telehealth visits, and home lab draws
  • Advocate in D.C. for government action on funding kidney research and defending medicare coverage

Thanks so much in advance for all your support and generosity! My kidneys and I appreciate you!

Stay healthy and hydrated,
BR
