I am a waking miracle!
Living with kidney diseases is scary and astonishing. You don’t know when it will take every last ounce of faith and hope for you to hang on, praying for healing to come. You are amazed how much your body will endure to continue to live. You are extremely grateful for the family that stands by you and bears every agonizing moment with you. Sometimes it takes all of that for you to learn there are people with indescribable strength that are willing to step into your life and make a difference.Four years ago, I saw the most selfless act when my living donor, Katie Jeanfreau, gave her kidney to me. She didn’t fear the unknown of the surgery or even the post-surgery recovery. She was the picture of generosity. Katie went through a year of testing and didn’t second guess her decision. She had a purpose, with a plan and there was no changing that she would give me a second chance at my life. Katie gave my husband his wife back, my son his mom back and my family and friends precious time.
As I celebrate my fourth kidney birthday, I wanted to bring awareness to living donation and share my story. If you or someone you know is suffering from kidney disease, there is hope and there are many resources available through World Kidney Day and National Kidney Foundation. If you would like to obtain information on living donations, please check out the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency or an agency near you. March is also National Kidney Month. Please consider donating on my fundraising page.
Are you with me?
