Cameron's Kid Knees
Why We Walk
This year, team Cameron's KidKnees has joined others throughout the country to fight against kidney disease. On November 13, 2022 we’ll walk for our loved ones, colleagues, friends, and all others who cope with this devastating chronic illness each day – and for those who lost their fight too soon.Together, we walk to support the lifechanging work of the National Kidney Foundation:
- To ensure that families will have a place to turn when they need answers.
- To keep up the fight for policy changes to protect kidney patients and living donors.
- To drive innovation in transplantation and get more loved ones off the kidney transplant waitlist.
Will you join us?
Walk with us and fundraise -or- support our efforts with a generous donation to improve the lives of kidney patients in our community and across the country.
For those who aren't familiar with Cameron's story, and the history behind our team name, Cameron was diagnosed at age 5 with CKD in July of 2022 after routine labs showed decreased kidney function. He was admitted to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh for a kidney biopsy. We tried our best to explain the biopsy in kid-friendly terms, but when he awoke after the procedure, he was looking at his knees to see where the doctors took the biopsy from, and we realized he thought they were going to take a little piece of his "Kid Knees."
While there is no current treatment to stop the progression of Cameron's condition, we hope to raise funds for kidney disease research to help improve outcomes for patients like Cameron who suffer from this chronic disease.
